How Often Should You Get Reiki?

Finding a Rhythm That Feels Right for You

If you have recently experienced Reiki—or are considering your first session—you may be wondering how often you should receive it.

Is one session enough? Should you come weekly? Is Reiki something you need to do regularly for it to be beneficial?

The simple answer is that there is no required Reiki schedule. Some people come for one session when they need additional support, while others choose to make Reiki part of their ongoing self-care. The right rhythm depends on what is happening in your life, what you hope to receive from your sessions, and what feels manageable for you.

Is One Reiki Session Enough?

A single Reiki session can offer a meaningful opportunity to slow down, reconnect with yourself, and receive gentle support.

Some people book one session because they are curious about Reiki. Others come during a particularly stressful week, while navigating a transition, or simply because they feel the need for quiet and rest.

You do not need to commit to multiple appointments before experiencing Reiki. Your first session can stand on its own. Afterward, you can notice how you feel and decide whether you would like to return.

When More Frequent Reiki Sessions May Feel Supportive

There may be times when you choose to receive Reiki more regularly, such as weekly or every other week.

More frequent sessions may feel supportive when you are:

  • Moving through an especially stressful or emotionally demanding season

  • Experiencing a significant life change

  • Feeling depleted, overwhelmed, or disconnected from yourself

  • Recovering from an illness, procedure, or physically challenging experience alongside appropriate medical care

  • Beginning a deeper period of personal or spiritual reflection

  • Looking for consistent time to pause and receive support

Reiki is complementary and is not a replacement for medical or mental health care. However, it may be included alongside other forms of care as part of a broader approach to well-being.

Some clients naturally schedule several sessions closer together and then begin spacing them out as their needs change. This is always a personal choice rather than a requirement.

Monthly Reiki as Ongoing Self-Care

For some people, a monthly Reiki session provides a regular opportunity to pause, reset, and check in with themselves.

Life can move quickly, and it is easy to continue pushing forward without noticing how much stress or tension has accumulated. Having a session on the calendar can create intentional space to slow down before reaching the point of complete exhaustion.

Others prefer to schedule Reiki seasonally, during particularly busy periods, or whenever they begin to feel that they need additional grounding and support.

There is no ideal schedule that applies to everyone.

How Will I Know When It Is Time for Another Session?

You may feel ready to return when:

  • You notice yourself feeling overwhelmed or energetically depleted

  • You are craving quiet and uninterrupted space

  • You are moving through something emotionally significant

  • You feel disconnected from yourself or your usual sense of grounding

  • You want continued support around an intention from a previous session

  • You simply feel drawn to receive Reiki again

You do not have to wait until something feels “wrong.” Reiki can also be received during peaceful or positive seasons as a way to support reflection, connection, and ongoing well-being.

At the same time, you never need to book another session because you believe you are supposed to. A supportive practitioner should allow you to determine what feels right for you.

Can You Receive Reiki Too Often?

Reiki is generally considered a gentle practice, but that does not mean everyone needs frequent sessions.

Receiving Reiki should feel supportive rather than becoming another obligation on your schedule. Your available time, financial comfort, personal preferences, and other forms of care all matter.

After a session, you may want to give yourself time to notice what comes forward before scheduling again. Some people immediately know they would like another appointment, while others prefer to wait several weeks or return only when they feel called to do so.

Both approaches are completely valid.

Your Reiki Schedule Can Change

The amount of support you want today may not be what you need several months from now.

You might begin with weekly sessions during a difficult period, move to monthly appointments as things settle, and eventually schedule only occasionally. You may also receive one session and feel that it was exactly what you needed.

Reiki does not have to follow a fixed plan. Your sessions can change alongside your life.

A Gentle, Client-Led Approach to Reiki

At East Coast Apothecary, Reiki is always approached as a client-led experience. You are welcome to come once, return regularly, or take time between sessions. There is no expectation that you follow a particular schedule or purchase a series of appointments.

If you are unsure what feels right, we can talk about what brought you to Reiki and what kind of support you are seeking. The final decision will always be yours.

In-person Reiki sessions are available at our studio in Burke, Virginia, and distance Reiki sessions are available online through Zoom.
