Frequently asked questions
What does Reiki feel like during a session?
Most people experience Reiki as deeply calming, grounding, or gently releasing—though every session can feel a little different.
You might notice warmth, tingling, or subtle waves of energy, or you may simply feel your mind quieting and your body relaxing more than usual. Some people don’t feel much physically at all, and that’s completely okay—Reiki still works in a quiet, supportive way.
Each session meets you where you are, so your experience may shift over time.
What should I expect at my first Reiki session?
Your session begins with a brief check-in so we can understand what you’re hoping to receive support with.
You’ll then lie comfortably (fully clothed) on the Reiki table or seated in a chair, while gentle energy work is offered either with light touch, or just above the body, or from a few feet away. The choice is yours. The session is quiet, calm, and guided by what your system needs—there’s no pressure to feel or do anything.
Afterward, we can share any observations or insights if that feels helpful.
How do I prepare for a Reiki session?
There’s nothing you need to do to “prepare perfectly.”
You can come exactly as you are. If it feels supportive, you might:
• Wear comfortable clothing
• Have easy on and off shoes
• Hydrate beforehand
• Set a gentle intention (optional)
But truly, just showing up is enough.
Do I need to believe in Reiki for it to work?
No—belief isn’t required.
Reiki is a gentle, supportive practice that works with your body’s natural ability to restore balance. Many people come in feeling unsure or simply curious and still have meaningful experiences.
You’re welcome to approach it in whatever way feels most comfortable to you.
Can Reiki help with anxiety, stress, or feeling overwhelmed?
Reiki is often experienced as deeply calming and can support your nervous system in settling.
Clients commonly come in when they’re feeling:
• Stressed or overwhelmed
• Emotionally heavy
• Mentally fatigued
• “Off” or out of balance
While Reiki is not a replacement for medical or mental health care, it can be a supportive complement to help you feel more grounded and restored.
Is distance Reiki really as effective as in-person?
Yes—distance Reiki is not limited by physical location.
Many clients report experiences that feel just as noticeable and supportive as in-person sessions. The format is slightly different, but the intention and energetic connection remain the same.
You can choose whichever option feels best for you.
What if I don’t feel anything during Reiki?
That’s completely okay—and more common than people think.
Reiki doesn’t rely on strong physical sensations to be effective. Some sessions feel very subtle, while others are more noticeable. Both are valid.
Often, the shifts show up afterward as:
• A sense of calm
• Clearer thinking
• Emotional release
• Better sleep
How often should I receive Reiki?
It depends on your personal needs and goals.
Some clients come:
• Weekly for ongoing support
• Monthly for maintenance
• As needed during stressful or transitional times
We can always adjust based on what feels right for you.
What should I wear to a Reiki session?
Wear anything comfortable that helps you relax.
You’ll remain fully clothed during the session, and you’ll be supported with blankets and pillows to help you feel at ease.
